Mohon Parish celebrated its 35th fiesta in honor of Señor Santo Niño de Cebu last February 8 –
9, 2020. Novena Masses were held from January 24 to February 8. Aside from the religious
activities slated for the duration of the fiesta, cultural and social activities were also held every
evening at the church patio participated by the different church organizations, schools in the
vicinity of the parish and by other civic groups.
The Prior Provincial, Fr. Andres D. Rivera, Jr., OSA was the Presider of the Visperas Mass on the
evening of February 8, 2020. Prior to the Mass was the solemn foot procession of the parish’s
titular – Señor Santo Niño de Cebu which was joined by numerous parishioners, students,
devotees, sisters, Augustinian novices and friars. On the fiesta day, at ten in the morning, Cebu
Auxiliary Bishop Midyphil B. Billones, DD presided at the Mass concelebrated by some diocesan
clergy and Augustinian friars. Bishop Billones also administered the Sacrament of Confirmation
to about 200 children and adults after the Mass. Different contingents also offered their Sinulog
presentations to the Holy Child held at the church patio on the afternoon of the fiesta day.
This year marks the 35 th Parish Fiesta of Mohon. The late Fr. Ambrosio J. Galindez, OSA started
the construction of a small chapel in the present location of the church in 1984. Over time, the
Catholic population of the parish grew and the church building went from being a small chapel
to its present size. Mohon’s present Parish Priest, Fr. Jonas M. Mejares, OSA together with the
Parish Pastoral Council is now spearheading the construction of the church façade and the
widening of the church aisle and interior which hopefully will be completed soon.
