Towards the end of the Mass, Fr. Rivera also blessed some “panecillos de San Nicolas” or Saint Nicholas’ bread bought from Mexico, Pampanga. The blessed bread were later distributed to the faithful present during the Mass. Tradition says that the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to Saint Nicholas when he was sick and instructed him to soak bread in water in order for him to get healed. Thus, the tradition of blessing bread during the feast of the Saint from Tolentino started and up to this day, the Augustinians are still promoting it to honor San Nicolas, the first Augustinian saint.
