Saint Augustine Parish Community

The Augustinians were the first missionaries to arrive at what is now presently the Bicol Region before it was eventually turned over to the pastoral administration of the friars minor not long before the turn of the seventeenth century. The friars returned in 2005 when the then Provincial, Fr. Jerome P. Mesina, OSA sent Fr. Arlon M. Vergara, OSA to pioneer the mission in Gubat, Sorsogon. The Santo Niño Chapel in Barangay Bagacay served as the temporary seat of the then Saint Lawrence The Deacon Quasi Parish, the predecessor of the present Saint Augustine Parish along the highway of Barangay Cogon and of Barangay San Ignacio. The friars additionally act as chaplains to the Augustinians nuns in the Monastery of Saint Rita only a short distance from the present parish church.
