The Santo Niño de Cebu Augustinian Development Foundation, Inc. (SNAF) signed a commitment to protect and preserve the environment and work together with the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cebu, various religious faiths and government organizations during the Interfaith Season of Creation Celebration 2021 held at the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints Cultural Hall, Lahug Cebu City last October 1, 2021.
Rev. Fr. John Ion Miranda, OSA, chairman of SNAF and currently assigned at the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño de Cebu, represented the Augustinians in signing the pledge of commitment together with the leaders of the Catholic Church, other faith denominations, and government organizations in Cebu.
They committed themselves “to strengthen and harmonize the efforts against destruction and pollution in our Land, Air, and Water ecosystems, in support to the rehabilitation of Cebu Rivers, Mountains, and Seas.”
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cebu initiated the celebration through Cebu Archbishop Jose S. Palma, D.D., and Rev. Fr. Murphy Sarsonas, Director of the Cebu Archdiocesan Commission on Environmental Concern, as a response to Pope Francis’ call to Ecumenism and in his Laudato Si’.
According to the Archdiocese’s Facebook post, participants include Bro. Dennis Dan T. Nuñez, Stake President; Rev. Bless Johannes F. Pace, conference minister of United Church of Christ in the Philippines; and Elder Edmarch Dumas of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Representing the government are Hon. Acting Mayor Michael Rama of Cebu City Government, Regional Director Lormelyn E. Claudio of DENR-EMB7, Hon. Alvin M. Dizon as representative of the Vriendschapsband Haarlemmermeer – Cebu.
