“To become an effective shepherd we acknowledge first that primarily, “I am the lost sheep” and in front of Jesus, “I am ‘that’ lost sheep” that needs to receive first his love, his care, his protection and his guidance… Let Jesus, the Good Shepherd, be your foundation.”
This is Bishop Billones’ message to the new parish priest of Sto. Niño de Cebu Parish Mohon, in Talisay City, Rev. Fr. Generous P. “Fr. G” Gonesto, OSA, who was installed on September 16, 2021.
Fr. Gonesto is the 9th parish priest of the Sto. Niño Parish since its establishment in 1985.
Fr. Gonesto hails from Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental and he first professed his vows in 1998 and was ordained priest in 2002.
Most Rev. Midyphil Billones, D.D., the Auxiliary Bishop of Cebu, fraternally invited the new parish priest together with the assigned Augustinian friars to acknowledge themselves that they are the sheep that need the good shepherd. “If we miss this, we will think that we own the mission or we own the priesthood or we own the ministry,” he said.
As a shepherd, “We are only extensions of the loving heart of Jesus, who promised I love my people. I will send shepherds patterned after on my own heart.” Bishop Billones said in his homily.
Other friars assigned as pastors of the church are Fr. Jerome P. Mesina, OSA, as Prior, Fr. Donato E. Ellezar, OSA, as Procurator, and Fr. Dominador M. Besares, OSA, as member.
Present in the installation were the Augustinian friars headed by the Prior Provincial, Rev. Fr. Andres Rivera, Jr., OSA and the parishioners.
