The newly created Augustinian Province of San Juan de Sahagun of Spain is currently holding its first Provincial Chapter from September 20 to 24, 2021 after four provinces were unified in September 2019.
The Province of Castille, the Province of the Most Holy Name of Jesus of the Philippines, the Province of Madrid, and the Province of Spain were merged into one Province during the 186th General Chapter of the Order of Saint Augustine in Rome.
74 chapter fathers from Tanzania, India, Perú, Argentina, República Dominicana, Panamá, Venezuela, Cuba, España o Portugal and the Philippines are taking part in the chapter at the Fray Luis de León House of Spirituality, Guadarrama, Madrid, Spain.
The Provincial Chapter is presided by the Prior General Alejandro Moral Anton, OSA together with Rev. Fr. Domingo Amigo Gonzalez, OSA as the first prior provincial. The main task of the chapter is to approve the documents that will define the life and mission of the more than 500 Augustinian friars affiliated in the Province in the coming years.
Also present in the chapter is from the Philippines, Fr. Peter Casiño, OSA, representing the Vicariate of the Orient. “The Vicariate continues to be a de facto circumscription of the Province until such a time that it commences its first Provincial Chapter as the Province of the Most Holy Name of Jesus of the Philippines,” as stated from the Vicariate’s facebook page.
Let us continue offer our prayers for the success of this historical provincial chapter.
We, from the Province of Santo Niño de Cebu – Philippines, are one with the new province as we take our roots from the Mother Province of the Most Holy Name of Jesus in the Philippines, which gave birth to a Filipino Augustinian Province on December 25, 1983 as its canonical establishment.
